Statement From The Deputy Minister Of Transport

In his speech, the Honourable Datuk Haji Hasbi bin Haji Habibollah highlighted alarming road accident statistics:

“Based on the latest statistics from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), 5,939 fatalities were recorded out of 585,729 accidents reported as of November 2024. Of these, a staggering 67% or 4,014 fatalities involved motorcyclists and pillion riders, with the majority being youths aged 16 to 35. This group has become the largest contributor to road accident deaths.”

The Deputy Minister also stressed the importance of proper licensing for motorcyclists:

“I would like to draw everyone’s attention to the critical need for possessing a valid driving license before being allowed to ride motorcycles on public roads. This fundamental step is essential in ensuring road safety for all.”

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment through its safety and enforcement agencies under the Ministry of Transport to address these challenges and improve road safety.
