The global Muslim-friendly travel sector is continuing its
upward trajectory, supported by major investments, new destination projects,
and rapid advances in digital technology, according to the latest State of the
Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) Report 2025/26. The report highlights how
governments, tourism authorities, and private-sector players are strengthening
their focus on attracting Muslim travelers through improved services and
long-term development plans.
Industry analysts noted that several countries are expanding tourism infrastructure while introducing facilities that better serve the needs of Muslim visitors. These efforts include the development of halal-friendly accommodation, enhanced visitor experiences, and tourism initiatives designed to appeal to a growing global Muslim market. The report suggests that such investments are helping destinations remain competitive as travel demand continues to recover and expand.
Digital transformation is also playing an increasingly important role in the sector's growth. Travel providers are making greater use of digital platforms, online booking systems, and technology-driven services to improve convenience and accessibility for travelers. The report indicates that technology is becoming a key factor in how Muslim-friendly travel experiences are planned, promoted, and delivered.
Beyond tourism, the report points to broader growth across the Islamic economy. Consumer spending across major Islamic economy sectors reached an estimated US$2.60 trillion in 2024 and is projected to rise to US$3.56 trillion by 2029. Researchers noted that governments and investors are increasingly focusing on strengthening halal value chains, expanding Islamic finance, and building digital systems that support trust and transparency within the industry.
The findings suggest that Muslim-friendly travel is becoming an increasingly important segment of the global tourism market. With continued investment, destination development, and technological advancement, the sector is expected to remain a significant contributor to the wider Islamic economy in the years ahead.
