Egypt will host the second phase of the 10th Special Olympics Regional Games 2026, bringing athletes from across the region together for performance sports. The arrangement was confirmed through a sponsorship protocol between Egypt's Differently Abled Fund and Special Olympics Egypt. Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy attended the signing ceremony.

The event is expected to include 173 athletes and heads of delegations from 12 countries. Another 42 people will take part in a conference connected to athlete preparation. The combination of competition and training discussions is intended to support both the participants and the people responsible for preparing them.

Morsy said support for the games reflects a move beyond basic social care towards rights, empowerment and full participation in community life for people with disabilities. Sporting events can provide athletes with a public platform to demonstrate ability, discipline and teamwork. They can also encourage wider recognition of equal opportunity in education, health services and everyday social participation.

Zeina Tawakkol, executive director of the Differently Abled Fund, said the agreement supports the organisation's work in sport, education and healthcare. These programmes are designed to improve quality of life and widen opportunities for people with disabilities across the region. The regional games will therefore serve not only as an athletic competition but also as a meeting point for families, coaches, officials and organisations working for inclusion.
