Young Innovators and Investors Gather in Istanbul for OIC Entrepreneurship Summit

Entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers from across the Muslim world came together in Istanbul for the opening of the 2026 OIC Youth Entrepreneurship Conference, an event focused on strengthening innovation and supporting startup growth throughout OIC member countries. Held at the Istanbul Financial Center, the conference aims to create stronger connections between young business founders, financial institutions, and government stakeholders.

The event was organized through a partnership involving several Turkish institutions, including the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Industry and Technology, and Youth and Sports, along with the Presidency Investment and Finance Office and the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF). Participants from both the public and private sectors joined academics, industry specialists, and startup founders to discuss ways of building stronger entrepreneurial ecosystems across the Islamic world.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül emphasized the demographic strength of Muslim-majority countries and highlighted the importance of preparing young people for a rapidly changing global economy. ICYF President Taha Ayhan described Istanbul as a meeting point between different regions and cultures, encouraging attendees to use the conference as an opportunity to form lasting partnerships and business connections.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology Zekeriya Coştu called on OIC countries to take a more active role in developing emerging technologies rather than remaining consumers of innovation. He pointed to sectors such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, semiconductors, and quantum computing as areas where greater participation is needed. Coştu also outlined Türkiye’s ambition to support 100,000 startups and technology ventures by 2030 while positioning Istanbul among the world’s leading innovation centers.

The conference also focuses on improving access to investment, mentorship, and cross-border collaboration. Organizers believe stronger support systems and financing opportunities can help transform promising startups into sustainable businesses capable of expanding beyond national markets. Through panel discussions, networking sessions, and startup showcases, participants are exploring practical ways to strengthen entrepreneurship across the OIC region.
