Saudi Arabia’s Operating Revenues Index increased 6.1 percent year on year in June, with manufacturing and financial and insurance activities recording particularly strong growth, according to preliminary data from the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).
The two sectors each registered a 16.9 percent annual increase, making them major contributors to the overall rise in the index. GASTAT’s latest figures also showed growth of 5.4 percent in information and communication activities, 2.3 percent in construction, and 0.6 percent in wholesale and retail trade, including the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles.
The latest figures come as Saudi Arabia continues to expand economic activity beyond the oil sector under its Vision 2030 programme. Earlier data from GASTAT showed that the country’s real GDP grew 3 percent year on year in the first quarter of 2026. Both oil and non-oil activities expanded by 2.9 percent, while the non-oil sector contributed 1.7 percentage points to overall GDP growth.
Despite the annual increase, the Operating Revenues Index declined 3.2 percent from May. The monthly fall was largely linked to a 27.3 percent drop in mining and quarrying activities. Information and communication activities fell 0.2 percent, while accommodation and food services declined 1.3 percent. Other services recorded a 0.2 percent decrease, and arts, entertainment and recreation activities fell 1.5 percent.
Saudi Arabia’s Employees’ Compensation Index climbed 9.1 percent year on year in June. Manufacturing recorded an 11.8 percent increase, followed by wholesale and retail trade, including motor vehicle and motorcycle repair, at 7.6 percent, and construction at 6.5 percent.
Mining and quarrying compensation rose 3.9 percent, while financial and insurance activities recorded a 7.8 percent increase.
On a monthly basis, the Employees’ Compensation Index rose 1.6 percent. Manufacturing increased 2.6 percent, construction 1.4 percent, and mining and quarrying 0.7 percent. Financial and insurance activities grew 2.4 percent, while transportation and storage rose 2.1 percent.
Saudi Arabia issued 5,045 building permits in June, representing a 20.3 percent increase from the 4,192 permits issued during the same month last year. However, the number was slightly lower than May’s total of 5,056, registering a monthly decline of 0.2 percent.
GASTAT said its Short-Term Business Statistics programme tracks the monthly performance of different economic activities through indicators covering establishments operating in the business sector.
