Kazakhstan is considering an international innovation hub intended to support artificial intelligence, technology businesses and advanced professional training. The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Balaji Srinivasan, founder of the international technology community Network School. Initial plans place the hub in the Akmola region, with possible expansion to Alatau city.

Network School brings entrepreneurs, engineers, developers and researchers together for study and project development. Its model combines educational programmes with shared workspaces, conferences, hackathons and startup acceleration. Srinivasan said projects linked to the network are funded entirely by private investment rather than public money.

A related proposal, Network City, would be developed in the Burabay resort area in cooperation with local authorities and residents. Plans call for modular facilities that fit with existing urban development and the area’s natural setting. The site is expected to attract technology professionals, startup founders and researchers by offering a common place for work, learning and professional exchange.

Other proposed activities include Kazakhstan’s participation in an AI Film Festival with a prize fund supported by Srinivasan. The Network State Conference is also planned as part of the AI & Digital Bridge international forum, where major global technology companies are expected to participate. These events are intended to connect local specialists with international expertise, capital and professional networks.

The proposed hub would join existing initiatives including Astana Hub, the Data Center Valley project in Ekibastuz, and the TUMO and Tomorrow School programmes at the Alem.AI International Center. National plans also place attention on personal-data protection as digital services grow. Officials said the next stage will involve support from the relevant agencies to move the project towards implementation.
