Indonesia's Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin won the men's doubles badminton title at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, defeating China's Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang in three games. The pair recovered from losing the opener to win 19-21, 21-13, 21-18 in Ichinomiya, Japan, on September 29. Their victory delivered Indonesia's third gold medal at the Games. Leo and Daniel had already helped secure gold in the men's team event.
The final began with the Chinese pair taking a close first game. Leo and Daniel then won the second by an eight-point margin and held their advantage in the decider. The result ended a run of recent defeats against the same opponents. The two pairs meet regularly in Badminton World Federation competitions.
“If not now, when?” Daniel said, recalling what they told each other during the match. He said they kept reminding one another to use the opportunity fully. Leo credited their communication and adherence to the match plan, and thanked their coaches, support staff and supporters. He also said their previous win over Liang and Wang had come at the Singapore Open.
Indonesia's earlier gold medals came from the badminton men's team competition and weightlifter Rahmat Erwin Abdullah. Following the doubles final, the country's total stood at thirty medals: three golds, seven silvers and twenty bronzes. The new title added an individual-event victory to Leo and Daniel's earlier team success. It also gave the Indonesian badminton contingent another gold from its campaign in Japan.
