Continuous Growth Qatar's Developing New Public Parks

Many mega projects are being implemented in Qatar as part of the small county’s preparation for the World Cup 2022. These projects include the establishment of various facilities and infrastructure to accommodate visitors from all over the world to witness the matches over a few weeks. In the long term, these projects will serve the increasing needs of the growing population in Qatar Recently, the Public Works Authority, better known as Ashghal, announced a project to build two new public parks at Al Gharrafa and Umm Al Seneem areas, in addition to developing the existing Rawdat Al Khail Park, which is commonly called Al Muntazah.

The charming designs of these parks ensure the provision of social, environmental and recreational benefits to the visitors and surrounding neighbourhoods. Hundreds of trees will be planted in each park as part of the overall development of these parks to attract local visitors as well as foreign travellers. The parks will include lanes for joggers and cyclists besides professional gymnastics equipment for both male and female visitors and play areas for children of all ages including children with special needs. The three parks warrant environmental protection through implementing the second-grade quality of green building which will encourage people to visit the parks during all seasons throughout the year.

Rawdat Al Khail Park

Al Muntazah is what the people of Qatar call Rawdat Al Khail Park, which has been closed for several years. The park is named after the area in which it is located, Rawdat Al Khail. Reports mentioned that the Minister of Municipality and Environment is personally monitoring the renovation of the park, which used to be crowded with families to enjoy its available facilities. Under the new project, the park covers a vast area of 140,000 square metres offering many facilities for the needs of visitors of all ages with a distinct green environment. The features include green arena on 105000 square metres, planting 1250 trees, pedestrian and bicycle paths along 1300 metres, 401 car parking slots.

 Umm Al Seneem Park

Umm Al Seneem is one of the newly populated areas and is home to several health and education facilities. The area also has many infrastructure projects such as roads and drainage lines. The new park will offer green space for recreation and leisure for the rising population in the area. The park will be located at Hayr Al Zahra Street and Waab Lebarg Street in Umm Al Seneem on an area of about 130,000 square metres.Umm Al Seneem Park includes many facilities for visitors of all ages with a distinct green environment. The features include green arena along 102,000 square metres, planting 740 trees, building pedestrian and bicycle paths along 1200 metres in addition to 378 car parking slots.

Al Gharrafa Park

Since 1990, the area of Al Gharrafa had only a small family park that was built on an area of 7,500 square metres with various facilities. In view of the rapid growth of the country’s economy and population, there is a need to offer the residents of Al Gharrafa more recreational facilities. The new park at Al Gharafa Park is located at Umm Al Zuber Street and it will be constructed on an area of about 50,000 square metres. The park will be established in compliance with the latest safety and environmental standards. The features include green arena along 36,000 square metres, planting 307 trees, pedestrian and bicycle paths along 650 metres, 208 car parking lots.
