Türkiye has announced a national roadmap for quantum technologies through the SSB Quantum Program. The plan focuses on building local strength in next-generation computing, communications, sensing, and defense-related technologies. The program was launched in Ankara on June 24, 2026, with officials, university leaders, academics, and industry representatives in attendance.
Turkish Defense Industries Secretary Haluk Görgün said quantum technologies are no longer only a theoretical science field. He said they have become an area of strategic capability, especially in computing, communications, data analysis, cryptology, optimization, simulation, and navigation systems. He also said Türkiye needs its own flexible strategies in this field while keeping national priorities in view.
Görgün added that Türkiye has built stronger defense industry capacity over the past two decades. He said the country’s engineering base, growing sector network, and practical experience have improved confidence in developing local technologies. Türkiye ranks 11th globally in defense industry exports, according to his remarks at the event.
Several projects were also introduced during the launch. These included the Superconducting Quantum Processor Unit Development Project, the Kerteriz Project on quantum magnetometers, a cooperation protocol on strategic quantum technology skills, and the SSB Quantum Algorithm Competition.
